The "Handy" Guide to Glove Sizing
Whether you need high-performance winter gloves or precision work gloves, the right size is the difference between warmth and dexterity. Our Pro Glove Size Calculator uses the two most critical measurements—circumference and length—to determine your ideal fit.
How to Measure Your Hand
- Hand Circumference: Wrap a measuring tape around the widest part of your palm, excluding your thumb. This is usually just below the knuckles. Use your dominant hand for the most accurate result.
- Hand Length: Measure from the base of your palm (at the wrist crease) to the tip of your middle finger.
- Choose the Larger Number: Your glove size is determined by whichever of these two measurements is larger.
Understanding Alpha Sizing (S, M, L)
Glove sizing is usually consistent across brands:
- Small (S): 7.5 - 8 inches
- Medium (M): 8.5 - 9 inches
- Large (L): 9.5 - 10 inches
- Extra Large (XL): 10.5 - 11 inches
Material and Fit
- Leather Gloves: These will stretch slightly over time. If they feel a bit snug at first, that is often ideal.
- Wool/Synthetic: These should fit perfectly from the start as they have minimal stretch.
- Work Gloves: Consider if you need to wear 'liners' underneath. If so, size up by one half-size.
