Parkland Formula Overview
The Parkland Formula is the gold standard for calculating the volume of intravenous fluid (typically Lactated Ringer's) required for the initial resuscitation of a burn patient in the first 24 hours following the injury. Adequate fluid resuscitation is vital to prevent burn shock and maintain end-organ perfusion.
Timing of Administration
- First 8 Hours: Administer 50% of the calculated total volume (calculated from the time of the burn injury).
- Remaining 16 Hours: Administer the remaining 50% of the total volume.
Volume (mL) = 4 × Weight (kg) × TBSA (%)
